PICKED NYLON captures a one-of-a-kind, nylon-stringed guitar, in an intuitively playable production tool. The instrument’s clean and mellow timbres are perfect for a range of genres, from classical to electronica, as well as distinctive styles like bossa nova and flamenco. Whether you’re producing film scores or pop tracks, the powerful effects and performance controls give you everything you need for your perfect sound.

DEDICATED TO AUTHENTICITY

The sounds of PICKED NYLON were recorded with an instrument built by master guitar-maker Lisa Weinzierl, using rare preamps and a carefully controlled studio environment to capture the perfect tone. Six highly sought-after microphones were used to create three separate stereo setups, for a range of sound options that deliver everything from warm and organic to clean and modern.

PICKED NYLON comes with an expansive library of strummed chords, picked arpeggios, and delicate riffs, all performed with a range of playing styles by a top-class session player. The instrument’s broad range of song presets can be browsed by genre, for quick and easy access to the style you want. You can also record in your own parts using any MIDI controller, and then add in details like slides, fret noise, and harmonics to bring your compositions to life.

VISIONARY SOUNDS, ORGANICALLY MODULATED
The essence of PIANO COLORS lies in the synergy it creates between its deep pool of unique grand piano articulations, and the innovative modulation engines that include Motion, the Arpeggiator, and the newly extended Particles. Complex sounds transform in real-time to create expressive timbres, naturally pulsing grooves, and continuously evolving pads. BRUSHED, PLUCKED, STRUMMED, AND BOWED
To record the extensive collection of source samples in PIANO COLORS, a variety of unorthodox tools and materials were used including mallets, drumsticks, rubber, screws, and multiple EBows. The strings and body of a grand piano were prepared and played in highly unusual ways, and the sonic results were meticulously captured using the most sought-after recording equipment to yield a breathtaking array of lively resonances, articulate harmonics and colorful overtones.
24 HOURS WITH PIANO COLORS
Four artists, four contrasting styles, one iconic venue, one inspiring instrument. We put Jared Hines, Kaan Bulak, Lisa Morgenstern, and Yaffra together in Berlin’s historic Theater im Delphi, to demonstrate how PIANO COLORS can be used as a creative tool across multiple genres. Without further guidance, the quartet produced a stunning performance that mixes jazz chords, classical orchestration, electroacoustic textures, and dancefloor energy to showcase the instrument’s rich versatility and creative power.

Kontakt 6  Overview

Once again, NATIVE INSTRUMENTS raises the bar with KONTAKT 6 — the latest version of the industry-leading sampler. KONTAKT 5 takes a bold leap forward with 37 new filters, four new on-board studio effects, updated time-stretching, a new instrument bus system and more. As you will see from the new STUDIO DRUMMER, for example, it’s a deep-rooted update to the KONTAKT platform, allowing us — and you — to create even better instruments and more powerful, expressive sounds.
Native Instruments’ latest super bundle Komplete is back with its eighth iteration and among the instruments getting a major-point upgrade is Kontakt, which jumps to version 5. This soft-sampler powerhouse has been an industry standard for nearly a decade, but some interesting competition has been cropping up lately. With alternatives like MOTU’s latest version of MachFive re-emerging from the shadows and raising some eyebrows with its UI and new features, there is some pressure growing for Native Instruments to innovate. So what’s new with Kontakt ? Are the changes worthy of the full point upgrade?

Super-powerful sampler features. Extensive third-party library support. Top-quality SSL-style EQ/compressor. Some excellent new filters. MIDI file playback capability for scripters. Also, new higher quality time-stretch mode. It runs as a standalone app and a VST/AU/RTAS plug-in. Note that the library comes ready-compressed this time, using Kontakt’s lossless audio format, resulting in a smaller 25GB disk footprint.
One of the few truly new features that Kontakt 6 brings to the table is the Time Machine Pro sampling mode, which was reportedly developed for NI by the time-stretching specialists at zPlane. This algorithm is pretty convincing for most audio material, allowing you to stretch a sample by as much as 600% or shrink by 50%. There are some examples on NI’s Kontakt page that show off the possibilities here. One downside to the Time Machine Pro mode is that automation of pitch either doesn’t work or has been disabled intentionally.
