Kickstart your journey in Autodesk Maya 2026 with this beginner-friendly workshop from one of our most-watched instructors, Eric Keller. Introduction to Maya 2026: Volume 1 is a comprehensive guide featuring 20 in-depth lessons that walk artists through the Maya interface and navigation, and detail the essential editors required to build professional-looking 3D models and scenes.

Eric has been working with Maya for over 20 years. His goal with this workshop is to not only help artists understand all the essential parts of Maya that they need to understand before expanding into the more exotic parts, such as Bifrost and XGen, etc., but he also lets artists know which parts can be set aside and not worried about, easing the anxiety that can come with overwhelming interfaces when learning new software as a beginner or junior artist.

This first volume in Eric’s Introduction to Maya series covers key concepts, including working with cameras, geometry, scene lighting, and rendering within Maya’s viewports. He begins by teaching how to set up Maya properly, providing project files to support the learning process. He covers how to use Editors such as Outliner, Attribute Editor, Channel Box, and Display Layers, as well as the options available in the various panel menus. He shows how to preview Arnold renders directly in the interface, how to preview shading and textures using Viewport 2.0, and how to optimize the workflow using the Display options in the panel menus. Eric also demonstrates the Toolbox options, including Soft Select, Pivot Manipulation, Component vs. Object Mode, and Blue Pencil.

Along the way, Eric shares valuable tips and workflow tricks to help artists avoid common pitfalls and work efficiently in a professional setting. With 20 lessons to help artists get up and running in Maya, each around 12–15 minutes long, Eric’s workshop is designed so that artists looking to learn or get a refresher on an individual feature or technique can watch lessons independently, while those looking for a complete introduction can follow along in sequence.

This 5-hour workshop presents a complete, production-ready crowd simulation workflow using Golaem, Maya, and Unreal Engine, designed for high-end cinematic and film projects. Taught by Wilfried Lhomme, a Senior Crowd TD at DNEG, the techniques demonstrated are based on pre-production practices used in feature films and AAA cinematics.

Wilfried begins in Maya with Golaem, building a strong foundation for crowds, including agent creation, animation assignment, motion paths, triggers, transitions, and optimization strategies tailored for complex shots. The focus remains on creating clean, reliable setups that are easy to iterate on in production. The workflow then continues in Unreal Engine 5, covering cache export, scale and timing validation, and best practices for integrating crowds into a cinematic scene. Artists will also explore how to use Sequencer, camera blocking, lighting, and post-processing to achieve movie-quality results while maintaining strong performance.

This workshop is designed for both artists who have never worked with crowds before and those with prior crowd experience who want to strengthen, refine, or professionalize their workflow for production.

Assets from the Lost City by Big Medium Small Studio are used in this workshop; however, they are not required to follow along. Artists can work with any other assets or simple proxies to follow along with the techniques showcased.

Over the course of nine chapters, David covers how to manipulate attributes, details HeightField basics and MPM solver basics, explains how to use VDB processes to create sources, and discusses FLIP fluids basics. He also covers HeightField scattering, Meshing fluids, and Houdini’s GPU-accelerated Material Point Method (MPM) solver.

This workshop explores a wide range of areas within Houdini to help artists familiarize themselves with the different aspects and workflows that this powerful software offers. Starting with a basic scene setup and UI, David begins with a discussion of what makes Houdini so unique as a VFX software package. He then walks through examples of preferred professional workflows, while discussing working methodology and concepts that ensure artists of all levels can take advantage of working in “The Houdini Way.”

David details a HeightField overview and goes through some of the critical nodes. He then walks through how they can be used to create a base mesh quickly and procedurally. From there, David inspects the differences between different DOPs and instructs on how to create one from the ground up.
